What Makes an empire powerful?

We have already looked at Alexander the Great's empire and we discovered that it did not last very long. Within a few years of Alexander's death the empire split up into four seperate kingdoms. So we have to ask ourselves what is it that keeps an empire strong? Some historians say its the military or the economy or a strong culture - what do you think makes an empire strong? Make sure you justify your answers by EXPLAINING why you think what you do. Merely mentioning a particular characteristic will not get you the points for this assignment - YOU MUST EXPLAIN YOUR ANSWERS!

I think that a strong government, strong army, and citizens that respect and obey the empire. If you have a strong government than you will earn respect from the citizens and you can spread the culture of your empire just like Alexander the Great did. If you have an army that is strong you can conquer more land and expand the empire. These are some of the ways to make a powerful empire and this is what Alexander the Great did.

What i think makes an empire strong is a strong government, national currency, natural resources, and an equal social structure.I think a strong government makes an empire powerful because the people follow what the government says and the military will back up the government.National currency makes an empire strong because money gives you a lot of power. The government needs money to fulfill the people of the nation.Natural resources such as coal, oil, timber are very benefital to strong empires because not only does it supply the nation it also can be traded with other empires. An equal social structure is also important because it causes a quality throughout the nation and one person doesn't have an advantage over another.

I think that a strong culture makes an empire strong. This is because if an empire does not have a specific culture that makes them who they are, it will fall. Languages are a part of culture and communication, and are very important in creating a strong and successful empire. I think that certain cultures make different empires unique. This is because they do certain things that others do not and empires can be known years later for all the special things in their culture. Art can be a part of this also because there are different types all around the world. A lot of the empires we learn about today are mostly known for all the things they do involving the culture, so therefore, I think that it is what makes an empire strong.

I think the government keeps an empire strong. I think it's the government because they make all official decisions that affect the empire, for example the laws and punishments put into effect. An empire needs strict law enforcement, and if the laws are broken, they need to be re-established and a punishment is in order. The government also manages the army and economy. They enlist soldiers in the army and control trade with other countires.

What keeps an empire strong and powerful is a good king or dicatator. You wouldnt be able to keep an army in order if you didnt have someone that everyone would listen to. If you had a king that kept spending all of the money on useless things your economy would be poor as well. Everything revoloves around how smart &well rounded your king is. When Alexander the Great died his empire fell because nobody was left to keep it going, everything became a wreck.

I think that an empire ios kept strong if people are not forced to be in the empire but can choose to be in the empire if they want to. This would keep an empire strong because then everyone in the empire would want to be in and it isnt that they were forced to be in it.This would make sure that no one is against the empire that is included in it because no one that would be against it would come into it instead of like alexander the greats were people were conquered and forced to be in the empire.

To have a good empire i think all those things mentioned are needed. You need to have a good leader that can direct the empire in a good way and not in a bad way. Also you need to have a strong military that can protect the people in the empire and can defend in case of a war. Economy to me doesnt play a big part in having a good empire because if you have a stable government you tend not to have a bad economy.

A strong empire consists of a tough military, good economy. A good military is necessary because you can defeat other cities and obtain more land. Alexander the great defeated many cities with his strong military and made his huge empire. A controlled economy is essential because people will be do what the government tells them if they like there strategy. Alexander the great did not band any type of belief of religion he just spread the Greek culture to everyone and mixed it with Indian, Persian, and Egyptian influences (Hellenistic). Because of that everyone loves Alexander the great. A well built culture is very important also but that is what I think makes up a strong empire.

I think that the leader and it's people make the empire strong because if the leader wasn't favored by the prople he would be de throned and if the people weren't cooperative the economy and society would fall to peices
